water nozzle

The solution to this problem need not necessarily be to remain indoors but to install a proper water misting system. The misting system is based on the principle of water evaporation and can effectively cool a yard of standard size up to 20 or 30 degrees F.

The water misting system turns hot air into cold air and brings relief from the searing heat. Installing an outdoor misting system for a patio does not require any external help and you can do it yourself by following a few simple steps.

Cut PVC pipe into small bits of 24 inches apiece using a PVC pipe cutter so that no debris is left in the pipe. Next, coat both the pipe and nozzle with PVC primer. The nozzle has to be a PVC joint with a spray nozzle head. Coat is about ½-inch of the outside end of the pipe and also the inside of both ends of the nozzle with primer.

Fix the nozzles onto the pipe using PVC glue to coat the end of the PVC pipe. Insert the misting nozzle over the pipe and lock into place by a small turn. Continue priming and gluing the other nozzles and pipes for the straight run of the misting system. Make sure that the nozzles are straight in line with each other as they are glued to the pipe. This is important as they cannot be readjusted once the glue dries up. Place the pipe out on the floor of the patio and remove all the spray nozzle heads to flush the system.

Next, attach the pipe clips to the pipe straight run and hold the straight run of PVC pipe up to the roof of the patio. Hammer three to four pipe clips somewhat loosely onto the roof of the patio. Make sure that the starting clip is an inch higher than the ending clip to facilitate draining the pipe whenever necessary.

Loosely attach the other straight runs to the patio roof using clips.

Adjust the nozzle holes to avoid their pointing directly downward and the nozzles should also tilt out slightly. Glue the runs together using primed elbow fittings. Make sure the nozzles remain at the correct angle and then tighten the clips. Provide as many additional clips as needed between each nozzle.

It is advisable to provide a drain to the system for draining particularly before winter months so the pipes do not crack due to cold. Use a primed elbow fitting and glue it to a pipe of eight inches length. Attach a drain to the bottom of the pipe bearing in mind the drain should be capable of releasing the water when unscrewed. Glue the elbow to the low end of the system.

To add the water source, run PVC down from the ceiling to the faucet using elbow fittings. Screw in an adapter to the faucet using an elbow fitting to glue the PVC pipe to the adapter. Wait for some time for the glue to dry over the entire system.

Open the drain and start the flushing the system. Turn the water on and run it for 10 to 20 minutes. Attach the spray nozzle heads to the nozzles after turning the water off and shut the drain. The water misting system is now ready for operation.
